Well, I haven’t updated my blog in a while.
Since the last update a lot of stuff has been going on, both for my business and personal commitments. It’s also raining which is a welcome relief from a random heat wave.
I’ll start with business stuff and keep it brief so I can get onto the game development stuff. In the past few weeks, I’ve been very busy with new PC builds and tech support. Right now, it’s eased off into a quiet period.
As much as I would like to say having a quiet period is great, it’s also bad for the business funds, in which less work means less income and that means more cost cutting measures that I need to put in place. Sometimes I have to “bleed money” in order to drag through the quiet period.
I need to work on my time-slicing skill more as that’s one of my skills that I’m failing at. Sometimes I can pull it off but majority of the time, I fail at it – especially when client jobs go overtime due to clients wanting everything but the kitchen sink.
That’s enough business stuff, onto game development. My Chilean friend and I used to run [in]Sanity Interactive, which was a co-op gamedev team. That consisted of me doing programming and my friend doing assets. Just earlier this year we had the addition of another Australian, into the mix. She’s the 3D character modelling department, so to speak.
We also found out that some Austrian developers had chosen the dangerously close inSanity Interactive studio title which resulted in us writing off our former [in]Sanity Interactive name for Oiran Studio. Thus, Oiran Studio was born and we’re 3 team members strong. This was a good move as if we released a game under our old one and confusion broke out, there’d be a mess to clean up afterwards.
Looking back, the last few months or two have been productive in game development standpoint. We’re working on a third person shooter at the moment and another chibi game – both are shaping up nicely at this point in time.
That’s all I’ve got for now. I’m going to do some blog renovations and post some more stuff on a more regular schedule. Until next time… Coburn out.
